About
Dr. Doug Goodman is an Associate Professor and the Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Mississippi State University. He teaches graduate students in his department’s Master of Public Policy and Administration (MPPA) and its Ph.D. program. His main teaching and research area focuses on public human resource management and state budgetary politics. Dr. Goodman received his department’s Outstanding Professor award twice (2004 and 2007) since arriving at MSU in 2001. He was nominated for the Alumni Graduate Teaching Award in 2003 and the Graduate Student Mentor Award in the College of Arts & Sciences in 2007. He has directed a number of Ph.D. dissertations and serves on many other dissertation committees.
Dr. Goodman’s current research interests include at-will employment in the public sector, human resource management reforms, managing public employees following catastrophic events, and public sector retirement benefits. Dr. Goodman has a co-edited book, Contested Landscape: The Politics of Wilderness in Utah and the West. His publications appear in journals such as Review of Public Personnel Administration, Political Research Quarterly, Human Resource Development Quarterly, Public Personnel Management, Politics and Policy, Public Administration Review, and American Review of Politics.
